Oscars 2010: Best Dressed List - Vera Farmiga, Elizabeth Banks

"Up in the Air" star Vera Farmiga was nominated for an Oscar last night in the Best Supporting Actress category. Mo'Nique had that one pretty much locked up of course, but Farmiga was still out on the red carpet last night to celebrate both her own work and that of her peers.

One of her upcoming projects is "Source Code," a sci-fi flick from "Moon" director Duncan Jones (the most criminally underrated film of 2009). And given how excellent "Moon" was, MTV's Josh Horowitz had to ask Farmiga if we can expect more of the same in his sophomore effort.

"I can't tell you much," she said after confirming that she starts shooting in April.

"I'll tell you why," she continued. "Because I haven't wrapped my head around it myself and I'm going to sound like an utter idiot trying to explain it to you. It's a pretty complicated plot. With all due respect to Duncan Jones. I'm sure Duncan is not proud of me in this moment."

Farmiga remained tight-lipped, though she did indicate that there's some action in the movie. "Not my part," she said. "There's a portion of the film that is [action-oriented], but mine is actually very static."

That's not much to speculate on, but the way Farmiga says "static"... it's very deliberate. What it means is anyone's guess. The little we know of the story is that Jake Gyllenhaal plays a soldier who is forced to relive a train bombing over and over again in an effort to learn who the culprit is and prevent another attack from occurring. It's all a part of some experimental government program.

What do you think Farmiga might be doing in the movie?

Hot couture: Divas take the shine to red carpet

LOS ANGELES: Hollywood amped up the lights and colors at the Oscars on Sunday as leading ladies like Sandra Bullock, Cameron Diaz and Zoe Saldana donned shimmering metallic gowns to celebrate the big night.

The red carpet had less of the restrained elegance of other awards shows this season, and more edgier — and sometimes shocking — choices. "We saw a heightening of the glamour we've seen all awards season. For the Oscars, we saw actors pull out all the stops, taking hair, jewels and make-up to the next level," said Melissa Liebling-Goldberg of People Magazine's Stylewatch.com.

Style experts said stars took more risks, such as Sarah Jessica Parker, who wore a pale yellow Chanel, 1960s-inspired gown in silk charmeuse with exposed shoulders. But some attempts misfired as in the case of Charlize Theron's light purple gown with ruching detail on the bodice reminiscent of a torpedo brassiere.

Kate Winslet, presenting this year, chose a structured strapless column dress in silvery tones by Yves St Laurent and the most exquisite jewelry of the night: a pendant style necklace of emerald cut white and yellow diamonds by Tiffany with matching earrings and cuff believed to be worth more than $2.5 million.

Blue played a leading role on the red carpet, coinciding with the blue-tinged movie 'Avatar,' the best picture nominee that features a world populated by blue aliens.

Marchesa was a favorite designer among the female nominees, and was worn by Bullock and Vera Farmiga, who chose a ruby red strapless gown with a ruffle.

Diane Kruger also chose Channel Couture in a stunning white chiffon halter neck dress with black details; as gorgeous from the back as the front, something of a relief for the armies of photographers and fans catching just a glimpse as the stars spin by.
In a fifties-style gold strapless gown, Cameron Diaz looked the epitome of glamour as did Amanda Seyfried in Armani Prive.

Oscars 2010 Red Carpet: Amanda Seyfried Details Her 'Necessary' Girl Kiss With Julianne Moore In 'Chloe'

In film making, actors and actresses often have to step out of their comfort zone to truly get into a role. Amanda Seyfried knows this feeling very well, after sharing an on-screen kiss with female costar Megan Fox in last year’s thriller, “Jennifer’s Body.” Amanda recently shared another onscreen same-sex kiss with costar Julianne Moore in her upcoming film, “Chloe.” This time, while Amanda may not be more at ease with it, she’s definitely able to see the difference in the two experiences.

"Well, the situation was very different," she told MTV News on the Oscars red carpet. "Two very different stories and very different women."

Amanda may have more experience kissing women, but it’s not getting easier for her, she admits. "It'll never be easier. ... It's easier with men for sure," she said. "But the first kiss with anyone's awkward. The scene between Julianne and myself was very, very intimate and very erotic, so it was definitely a little bit harder [than in 'Jennifer's Body'], I think, but necessary."

“Chloe” is a remake of the French film "Natalie," in which a woman, (Julianne ) hires an escort (Amanda) to test the fidelity of her husband (Liam Neeson), which leads to dangerous complications. The film hits theaters on March 19.

Is singer/actress Mariah Carey pregnant? You can’t tell by the way she looked at the Academy Awards 2010 ceremony Sunday night.

Oscar Fashion was on full display at the 82nd Annual Academy Awards Sunday night where in a Tadashi navy blue gown Carey looked splendid on the Oscar red carpet. The gown showed off her bustline and also a high slit that made her look extremely beautiful.

Oscar winners 2010 list & 2010 Academy Award winners: Kathryn Bigelow outshines James Cameron

LOS ANGELES: Oscar winners 2010 list & 2010 Academy Award winners: Kathryn Bigelow outshines James Cameron. Kathryn Bigelow has created history at the Oscars by becoming the first woman to win the best director award.

Her Iraq War thriller "The Hurt Locker" won six awards at the Academy. Interestingly, her rival at the Oscars was her ex-husband James Cameron, who was also expecting to win some awards on Avatar. But at the end it was Bigelow who was the winner. After collecting the prize she was surrounded by reporters who tossed at her various questions from her life to future plans.

She deftly handed the curious reporters. And behind her was seated Cameron.

"Jim is very inspiring. I think he inspires filmmakers around the world, and for that, I think I can speak for all of them. We're quite grateful," Bigelow said.

When asked about her feelings after winning over Cameron, she laughed and didn’t say anything.
